The problem identified in my week 2 discussion question lends itself to a quantitative design. My article discussed using the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) to find out if there are any racial or ethnic differences in patients’ experiences with healthcare when trying to diagnose the early stages of breast cancer. I believe it is quantitative because they used multivariable linear regression to observe for racial/ethnic dissimilarities in these patients’ experiences, and a multivariable ordinal logistic regression to find out the relationship between patient experiences and earlier stages at diagnosis. Regression analysis is a quantitative method used to test the nature of relationships between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables (John Dudovskiy, 2011). Moreover, the level of evidence or research design that best addresses the problem is a Level II. This is evidence from well-designed controlled studies, either randomized or nonrandomized, with results that consistently support a specific intervention or treatment (Houser, 2018). This would best address the problem because out of the 10,144 patients they used, they can track the treatment that each race got before the diagnosis of early stages of breast cancer.
