Use the following checklist to go over Paper 1 before you turn in your paper. View the rubric on the assignment, as well.
Assignment and Thesis (Critical Thinking)
Reread the assignment and reread the writing prompt.
Check your paper to see that it is following the assignment requirements and meets the writing prompt.
Your thesis statement should address the entire writing prompt.

Make sure you’ve introduced all summarized and paraphrased information using the techniques and templates from Chapters 1-3.

Use the sandwich method to introduce, incorporate, and explain quotes. See Chapter 3 and materials I’ve provided
Paragraphing and Topic Sentences and Transitions
Check to see that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that states the main idea of the paragraph it starts that it relates the body paragraph it starts to the thesis statement. Reinforce the thesis statement in each body paragraph.
Check to see that each paragraph is unified.
Check to see that the paragraph is coherent.
Check to see that the paragraph is adequately developed.
Language
Make sure that you have proofread your paper.
Use spell check and grammar check, but remember they will not find all errors.
Make sure your paper maintains a formal tone. You may use first (I, me, my etc.) or third person (she, he, it, they, etc.) appropriately, but you may not use second person (you, your, yours, etc.). Avoid slang or informal language.
Avoid contractions (so use do not instead of don’t, for example.)
Read your paper out loud to see if you can “hear” mistakes.
MLA Format and Submission (Support)
Make sure your paper follows MLA format exactly as the sample MLA paper.
Make sure you have included correct MLA citations for every place that you paraphrase the ideas in the essay you chose to write about and for all quotations.
Make sure you have properly incorporated quotes using the “sandwich” method in Chapter 3 of They Say/I Say. Be sure to also use the methods and templates from Chs. 1 and 3
Make sure you have included an MLA Works Cited.
Name and save your file correctly. It should be called P1R_yourlastname and must be a Word document (docx ) or PDF –export as Word or PDFfyou don’t have Word).
